The city closes the Turbine Sports Palace in spring. Water comes through the roof onto mat four, and nobody climbs up to fix it anymore. Coach Galina Orlova gets one last season and room for four names.
Galina Orlova, sixty. Thirty-one years on this mat.
Misha Volkov
Twenty-two. Fast hands, quiet feet. He wraps his right knee in the locker room, where Galina can't see.
Ladder Hook. He locks your foot to the mat and leans everything on the bad knee to throw.
Galina's card: takes the grip first. Lands badly.
The fourth name took a week. Zoya Pikul asked three times and was sent home three times. On the fourth evening she threw Yuri for a half, in borrowed sneakers, and Galina wrote her down without a word.
Period2
The Winter Games
January. Six clubs, three days, the only heated hall in Sorokgrad. Turbine falls behind on the first morning and stays there.
Main Mat
Two hundred people in wet coats. Misha slips three times in his first bout. Three halves, and the board turns them into one full point against him.
Locker Row
Misha wraps the knee before every bout, a little tighter each day. Lidiya comes in for tape and sees it. She says nothing to her mother.
Roof Room
Buckets under the drips. After the second day Galina keeps them here past nine and teaches the one rule she cares about.
Half and full
A throw that isn't clean scores a half. A clean throw scores a full. Three halves make one full, and the board flips them over for you.
To throw clean you lock her foot to the mat with yours. The lock opens the full throw and leaves you standing on one leg. If that leg sits on a bad knee, the balance you're reading starts to shake.
=1
Three halves, one full. The board above keeps count the same way.
Interval
Turbine finishes fourth. On the last night the scoreboard dies with a bang and stays dark. Galina pins one more card to the rack: Volkov against Orlova.
Period3
The Last Bout
The hall lights went out with the board. People come anyway, with torches from home.
Misha and Lidiya have trained on the same mat for six years. They have never fought each other. Galina pins the card and does not explain.
Clean Throw
You are Misha. Lock her foot, then hold to feel her balance. Let go when the mark sits in the notch.
VOLKOV0ORLOVA0

Press and hold Space or this button. Release when the mark is in the centre notch.
Her balance is still. Lock the foot for a full throw.
Reduced motion is on, so the bout is shown at its final score. Grip again to play it.
Nobody can read the board
Someone hung the dead board back up for the final, and every flap jams halfway. The judges argue at the table. Misha and Lidiya shake hands before they finish.
Galina waits until the hall is empty. Then she turns off the lights.
Turbine Sports Palace, Sorokgrad. Closed in the spring of 1979.
Notice Board
Notice No. 14: closed playtest
From Turbine Frame Studio, to everyone who asked at the door.
The first closed playtest of DYNAMOBOUT runs on PC and PlayStation 5. You play the whole last season: three periods, four athletes, three stages, and Galina watching from the edge of the mat.
Every athlete started as paper. We cut the pieces, pinned the joints and shot them frame by frame, then rebuilt them in the engine so the hinges still move the way paper moves. When a throw lands, a leg or a belt arrives one frame late, and we kept that delay in the final animation.
The rule is the one Galina teaches in the Roof Room. Halves and fulls, three halves make one, and the foot lock costs you your balance.
Registration is open below. We will write once, before the doors open.

Help
Answers to what people ask most
How do I join the playtest?
Fill in the card in Register for Playtest. You will get one email when your wave opens, with a key and install steps.
I registered but got no email
Waves open over several weeks. Check your spam folder, then write to [email protected] from the same address.
Which platforms?
PC (Windows 10 or later) and PlayStation 5. Progress does not carry between them during the playtest.
Controls
Pad or keyboard. Grips on the shoulder buttons, the foot lock on a face button, throws on release. Every input can be remapped.
Accessibility
Subtitles for every line, a hold-to-toggle option for grips, reduced screen shake and a slower balance swing. On this site, the stopwatch in the corner pauses motion and the period clock.
Reporting a bug
Use the report button in the pause menu. It attaches the last thirty seconds of the bout so we can see the hinge that broke.
